Who we are

SCOU is a price comparison and AI shopping assistant app. We are a US-based company. "SCOU," "we," "us," or "our" in this policy means us.

What we collect

Information you give us directly

• Your email address and password when you create an account
• Your name if you choose to provide it
• Products you save to your wishlist or price alerts
• Messages you send to the AI Scout chat
• Referral codes if you use one to sign up

Information we collect automatically

• Products you search for and view (to personalize your feed)
• Price alerts you set and deals you tap on
• Your general device type and operating system
• App version you are using

What we do NOT collect

• We do not collect your precise GPS location
• We do not access your contacts, photos, or files
• We do not read your browser history outside the SCOU app
• We do not collect your credit card numbers — purchases happen directly on retailer sites

How we use your information

• Show you personalized product recommendations based on your taste profile
• Send price drop alerts when wishlist items go on sale
• Deliver your personalized Morning Brief
• Power the AI Scout chat responses
• Calculate your Price IQ score
• Prevent fraud and keep your account secure
• Send important service emails (password resets, security notices). We do not send marketing emails unless you opt in.

Affiliate links and how we make money

SCOU earns a small commission when you click a product link and make a purchase on a retailer's website. This is affiliate marketing under FTC guidelines (16 CFR Part 255). Here is what you need to know:

• You pay exactly the same price whether or not you use SCOU
• We earn the same commission rate across all stores — we have no financial reason to favor one store
• We never override affiliate links belonging to content creators or other publishers
• We never hide better deals to earn higher commissions

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:

• Supabase — our database provider, storing your data securely in the United States
• Anthropic — only the content of your AI request, never your full profile
• Product data APIs — only the search query, never your identity
• Law enforcement — only when legally required by court order
• A successor company if SCOU is ever acquired — you will be notified first

Your rights under US law

• Right to know: request what data we have about you
• Right to delete: request deletion of your account and data
• Right to correct: update your information in Settings anytime
• Right to opt out of sale: we do not sell data, so this is always satisfied
• Right to non-discrimination: we will not treat you differently for exercising these rights

California residents have rights under CCPA. Virginia residents have rights under CDPA. These are covered above. Email privacy@getscou.app to exercise any right. We respond within 45 days.

Children's privacy

SCOU is not for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child created an account, email privacy@getscou.app and we will delete it within 72 hours.

Data security

• All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
• Passwords are never stored — we use Supabase Auth (secure hashing only)
• Session tokens are stored in encrypted device storage
• We do not store payment card information

If we discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you by email within 72 hours as required by law.

Data retention

We keep your data while your account is active. After deletion, personal information is removed within 30 days. Transaction records are retained for 7 years for tax compliance.

Changes to this policy

We will notify you by email and in-app at least 14 days before any significant changes take effect.
